Cobra is an Artists’ quality water mixable oil paint with an exceptionally high degree of pigmentation. Only the very best pigments and oils have been used to create this oil paint.
Water mixable oils can be cleaned with water making for solvent free painting!
Cobra oils can be used for all standard oil painting techniques such as Alla-Prima (wet-into-wet), impasto, layering and glazing. Cobra can also be used with normal oils, oil mediums and solvents, but you will lose the water-miscibility if you do this.
The Cobra oils have a uniform drying time of 3-5 days and a uniform degree of gloss across all colours. Painting with Cobra paints is much like painting with traditional oils. The colour, as well as the brush stroke or applied texture, retains its full colour and brightness after the paint has dried. There’s no need for harsh solvents to clean your used brushes – just use soap and warm water to quickly remove the paint.
During the grinding process, Cobra oil paint is ground on the triple roller mill until it reaches the fineness of an Artists’ quality.
The Cobra range consists of 70 transparent, semi-transparent, semi-opaque and opaque colours. They all have the highest degree of lightfastness ( ) and under museum conditions remain unchanged for at least 100 years. The range includes 32 mono-pigmented colours. There are also ten colours based on highly exclusive pigments – such as the cadmiums, cobalts and chromium oxides – as well as an exceptionally transparent oxide red or yellow.
Painters using Cobra Water Mixable Oil Colours (or any other brand of water mixable oils) might wish to try Water-mixable Oil Mediums, which can be used to change the consistency, handling properties or appearance of Cobra colours without compromising their water-miscibility.

Cobra’s Painting Paste is a colourless medium that can be mixed with water-mixable oil paint in any ratio which can be used to increase the paint’s volume for impasto techniques with no colour change. The more paste that is added, the more transparent the paint colour will become. The addition of painting paste to a stronger colour makes the colour’s intensity less prominent.
We suggest to always mix Cobra Water Mixable Oils and Cobra Painting paste together with a painting knife.
The paste is as thick as Cobra Water Mixable Oils and can, therefore, be described as a water-mixable oil paint without pigment – you could therefore add powdered pigments to this paste to create your own water mixable oil paints.
