Expressive Abstract Figures
Create expressive figures or portraits in an abstract style fusing realism with abstract elements using acrylics, oils, inks, crayons and more!
Over 3 days you will learn how to select the right reference image to work from and how to transform it into an expressive artwork fusing loose abstract marks into a realistic figure painting by building up layers of paint.
You will learn how to create a colour scheme that works, adding pops of colour into your artwork and how to highlight the main points of interest. You will learn how to handle oil paints to paint the figure. You will learn how to create veils of colour and how you can break the rules to achieve some interesting effects.
The use of most art supplies is provided however you will need to purchase your canvas (we recommend doing this in class when you can select the appropriate size for your reference) and a few select items in colours of your choice.

iPad/Tablet: If you have an iPad or other tablet, please bring this to class as we will show you how to use apps to create reference images. If you don't have a tablet you can use your phone but this is not as ideal as using a tablet.
