Loose & Luscious Landscapes
During this 2 day workshop, you will discover 3 different approaches to painting loose landscapes using acrylics, oils and mixed media.
Whether you just want to get ‘Loose and Luscious’ with your painting or you want to learn how to create texture and depth in a landscape, this class is for you.
After an overview of the 3 different approaches to painting loose landscapes is covered, you will choose the painting style and reference image that appeals to you most to paint in this fun 2 day painting workshop.
- Style 1: Using reference photo you will learn how to simplify and loosen up your approach to landscapes with acrylics or acrylic and oils over mixed media.
- Style 2: Learn how to create effects with oil paints and mediums + pastels to create a modern style landscape concentrating on colour, pattern and design elements.
- Style 3: Start with an acrylic ground and layer oils with brushes and palette knife and oil sticks.
If you have never used oils before, there is no need to worry, we will teach you everything you need to know including how to clean up quickly, safely and easily without turps (and without the nasty odours).
Using a photo reference, you will learn to interpret the landscape with beautiful colours and optional layered textures to create a modern impressionistic style landscape.
What You Will Learn:
- What to look for in a reference photo and how to adapt photos into a contemporary style landscape
- How you can combine multiple reference images and use mark making to enhance the landscape
- Learn how to start with a contrast under painting in acrylics and use layering techniques to build your painting
- Learn how to mix the correct amount of impasto medium with your oil paints and apply with palette knife for textural painting styles
- How to use different mediums to create different effects, such as using water soluble pastels, paint mediums, oil pastels and oil sticks
- Use pastels and/or oil sticks to lay down the composition and get free
- Loosen up your composition and create a more modern impressionistic style
- How to create different effects with your palette knife and/or brush
You will receive detailed instructional notes.
Students bring baby wipes, paper towel, brushes, oils + acrylic, pastels if you have them.
