Using water mixable oils you will learn how to paint with oils, working with opacity and transparencies, veiling and glazing to create a realistic ocean painting. You will learn how to see colour values and the importance in creating a life like painting. You'll learn to harness the unique qualities of oils to depict the subtle interplay of light on water, the texture of sea foam, and the depth of the ocean's hues.

What You Will Learn:

• Preparation without Pain: Fast track the slow process of drawing up and use projectors to accurately outline your compositions on canvas to ensure an accurate composition without hassle.

• Color Mixing and Application: Learn to mix and apply water-soluble oil paints to replicate the diverse and vibrant colors of the ocean and create the illusion of transparent, glowing water depths and reflections.

• Advanced Blending and Brushwork Techniques: Master blending and brush strokes to depict the movement of water, foam, and clouds. Learn what brushes to use where and when to add texture and detail into your seascape.
• Layering for Depth: Techniques to create visual depth and interest through effective layering and glazing, mimicking the natural layers of the ocean.

What To Bring:

• A packet of Baby Wipes
• A roll of Paper Towel
• Any brushes that you have (old scruffy hogs hair brushes preferrably)
• A paint palette if you have one (if you don't have one we will provide you with one)
• A visual art diary if you have one - can be purchased in class if needed.
• You will need to purchase a canvas - we recommend purchasing during class when you choose your reference picture and decide on the size you want.

Workshop Schedule and Duration:

Total Duration: 2 days, 9.30am - 4.30pm each day (half hour lunch break)

• Day 1 Schedule: Selecting your reference image, drawing up your composition, completing your underpainting, beginning the painting.
• Day 2 Schedule: Detailed work on water, foam, spray, sky etc. Techniques using different brushes and tools. 

Post-Workshop Support: If needed, you can attend up to two additional 3-hour classes to refine and complete your painting under Tracy's guidance.
