Abstract Painting Workshop

You will be able to use an array of mixed media and learn the effects that can be achieved. Different tools and mediums will be explored showing you how to create the unique marks, how to add mono-printing and subtraction techniques. You will work with transparent layers and veiling to build interest in your artwork.

We will look at different artists abstract artworks and discuss what makes them successful and how different effects have been achieved. You will learn about different compositional rules and how this can make or break an abstract painting.

Over the 2 days you will create a series of mini paintings on canvas paper and then you will use this work to develop one larger abstract painting.

What to Bring:

Bring any of the items below you have from home – art materials will be available to purchase on the day.

• A3 Canvas pad
• Larger canvas when you decide on its proportions
• Bring any acrylic paints you have at home in your favourite colours + White
• Bring any acrylic inks you have
• Old large hogs hair brushes
• Foam Brushes
• Palette Knife, scrapers or other painting tools and window squeegee
• Paint Palette or plastic serving platter/plates
• Water spray bottle
• Please bring a packet of baby wipes (not available for purchase in class – please bring).
• Bring pictures on your phone of your favourite abstracts for discussion.
