Mixed Media Abstracts

Working from organic reference materials to inspire you, you will learn how to transfer these shapes and lines into abstract or semi abstract artworks.  

Learn how to plan for success by understanding how to mix your colours better and developing a colour scheme that will work for your painting.  You will explore how to play with the relationships between abstract elements to improve your compositions

Using a layering process you will learn how you can create depth and texture in your artwork by incorporating mark making, use of different tools and brushes and layering of transparent and opaque colours to build an exciting abstract artwork.

You will work with a variety of art materials and discover how you can incorporate these into your paintings to make them more interesting. You will get to play with acrylic inks, charcoal, acrylic paints, gouache sticks, oil pastels, unique mark making tools and more.

In the class you will learn how to critique your artwork at different stages to analyse what needs to be done to bring your piece to completion. Our detailed class notes include a detailed checklist for critiquing your work.
