Wax Painting Paste

Wax Painting Paste

Langridge Wax Paint Paste is a wax medium with a thick, buttery consistency that can be added to oil colour to add body or thickness. A highly stable impasto medium that extends oil colours whilst keeping a strong bodied brush or palette knife stroke. The wax holds its shape during and after full drying, without the dangers of ‘surface-crawl’ and excessive yellowing.

Keeps a bodied brush stroke for robust direct painting techniques. Natural matte quality of wax will reduce the gloss level of resulting paint films. Do not mix

By adding Wax Paint Paste in quantities over 70%, coloured translucent glazes are created. Using Wax Paint Paste as a glaze gives paintings a soft glow, particularly when used over pale background colours.

Because wax is not absolutely clear it will reduce the depth of tone of colours. For this reason. Wax Paint Paste is slow drying, allowing for a wet-in-wet technique with very controlled manipulation of paint including soft blending. As the paint is brushed out stroke-marks will be held in place. The Stand Oil base ensures pale colours stay bright even when used in high proportions with oil colours.

Please note: Langridge Wax Paint Paste is a very pale cream colour paste with a characteristic Gum Turpentine odour.

Full film drying 3-6 months.

Oleogel

Oleogel

Oleogel is a clear soft oil medium for extending oil colours.

It is very versatile – when applied vigorously it will become fluid allowing easy brushing and as soon as it stops being moved around it immediately ‘sets up’ and does not drip or lose its position. Small additions of Oleogel will enhance brush strokes and aid the handling qualities of existing oil colours. The more medium that is added to the oil paint, the more transparent your oil colours will become due to the further suspension of the pigment throughout the medium.

It is recommended to apply only in thin paint films to prevent surface wrinkling. If you are wanting to apply thick impasto paint we recommend using the Langridge Impasto Medium instead.

Langridge Oleogel is a clear gel with a characteristic Safflower Oil odour. Very fresh medium may exhibit a bluish-grey cast. The colour of the medium will not effect the oil colours with which it is mixed.

  • A solvent free, soft gel medium for extending oil colours.
  • Aids fluidity and paint handling.
  • Holds brush marks.
  • Non-yellowing Refined Safflower Oil base.
  • Fat medium with high oil content – do not use for underpainting or under oil paints without additional ‘fatter’ mediums applied on top.
  • Not recommended in larger percentages with white colours.
  • 24-48 hours to touch dry. Any airflow over the surface will evaporate the solvent more rapidly which will reduce drying times. Full film drying 3-6 months.
  • Dries to a gloss finish.
  • Thin with solvent such as Solvent 75
  • May be added to oil colours at quantities at the discretion of the artist.

Constituents: Refined Safflower Oil, Fumed Silica, Castor Wax, Cobalt Drier, Calcium Drier.

Langridge Impasto Medium

Langridge Impasto Medium

Langridge’s Impasto Medium is an incredibly thick gel medium that can be added to oil colours for extra body without altering their colour intensity.  Loved by artists for it’s thick buttery consistency and ability to holds incredible shape without slumping when applied thick.

Can be applied with a brush or a palette knife. When worked using a brush or palette knife the medium becomes slightly looser allowing for easy incorporation with colours.

Initially small additions will stiffen the handling of existing oil colours. As more medium is added, the oil colour will be suspended and extended forming a thick paste.

Langridge Impasto Medium has a high oil content and, as such, is a ‘fat’ medium. Due to it’s physical nature Langridge recommends not over painting Impasto medium with any other medium.

Ingredients: Refined Safflower Oil,  Fumed Silica, Castor Wax, Cobalt Drier, Calcium Drier

  • For use with Oil Paints
  • Fat medium
  • Perfect for thick Palette Knife painting
  • Solvent Free
  • Non-yellowing
  • Recommended maximum addition of 25% of total paint volume.
  • Australian Made & Owned
  • Professional Artist’s favourite!

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel has a fast drying capacity, damar resin based medium giving lasting brilliance and luminosity when mixed with oils colours allowing for modern glazing technique. Thixotropic medium with a soft gel consistency designed for bold glazing.

When mixed with paint and applied vigorously with brushes or palette knife the medium becomes highly fluid allowing easy brushing. As soon as the medium stops being moved it immediately ‘sets up’ and does not drip or lose its position. Artists can utilise this high degree of manipulation for a very robust brush-marking technique without the thick application of paint.

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel may to be added to oil colours in quantities at the discretion of the artist. It can be used as an all-round flow medium for extending colours. Fast drying to allow for the rapid build up of paint layers.

As more medium is added to the oil colour so the opacity of the resulting paint will be reduced. Bold glazes can be applied that can hold marks including brush, sgraffito and frottage techniques. The layer of transparent paint (or glaze) should sit on top of the existing painted areas not unlike a layer of coloured film, that is, altering the colour of oil colours beneath without obscuring the form.

Langridge Oil Glazing Gel has a high Linseed Oil content and, as such, is a ‘fat’ medium. It should not to be used for underpainting if oil colours with no additional medium are to be applied on top. Note: Over-use of Oil Glazing Gel with pale colours may cause yellowing.

Dries to a gloss finish.
